FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL TOPICS

What Is Infrared?

Infrared radiation (IR), or infrared light, is a type of radiant energy that’s invisible to human eyes but can be physically felt as heat. All objects in the universe emit some level of infrared radiation. In the simplest of terms, infrared radiation is essentially the emitting of temperatures.

What Is Infrared Used For?  (Infrared Uses)

Infrared imaging or thermal imaging is useful in many applications, though with ITI, we utilize infrared technology to locate issues that are not usually visible within roof systems, electrical systems, buildings, and mechanical systems. ITI also uses infrared in the local sector for search and rescue methods and fire-fighting aid.

Why Should You Choose Infrared Over Other Inspection Methods?

Thermal testing is potentially the most valuable form of non-destructive inspection. Thermal Inspections or Infrared Inspections can assist in preventative and predictive maintenance by not only finding issues before catastrophic failure, but by specifically pinpointing these issues for the most efficient repair methods.

What Is Non-destructive Testing or Non-destructive Inspection?

Non-destructive testing (NDT) means in most cases, we can inspect or test materials, components, structures, or systems for errors and defects without causing damage to the original part. We are certified non-destructive testing specialists.

What Is Predictive Maintenance?

Predictive maintenance is an assessment of the condition of in-service equipment in order to estimate when maintenance should be performed.

What Is Preventive Maintenance or Preventative Maintenance?

Preventive Maintenance or Preventative Maintenance is the regular, routine maintenance to assist in keeping equipment up and running, preventing any unplanned downtime and expensive costs from unanticipated equipment failure.

Why Is Preventative Maintenance Important?

Preventative Maintenance has been proven to save money and time in the long run. Unexpected failure and downtime will result in costly and timely repair or replacement.

What Is the Difference Between Predictive Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance?

Predictive maintenance differs from preventive maintenance because it relies on the actual current condition of the equipment or system, rather than the average or expected life statistics, to predict when maintenance will be required.

What Type of Infrared Equipment Do You Use?

ITI has a plethora of thermal imaging systems that allow us to be as efficient as technology allows thus making our jobs safer and requiring less time. We only use industry leading FLIR cameras and FLIR imaging systems on all our equipment.
